CHOOSING FIT, NOT TREND.
Everybody just wants to enjoy and get the most out of their ride. One part of achieving that is your personal fitness and skills development. The second part - a bike dialed to your personal body type and ride style. At SPANK INDUSTRIES, we call this THE HUMAN FACTOR.
We are focussed on offering you the right fit, rather than simply promoting a trending product. To make the most of your SPANK purchase, take a little time to read through our DIAL YOUR FIT section below so that you are well informed to make the choice thats right for you.
FOUR STEPS TO DIALING YOUR FIT
FOUR STEPS TO DIALING YOUR FIT
HOW TO identify the product that’s right for you:
STEP 1 - YOUR FIT. What is your body type and size, and what is your ride style?
STEP 2 - YOUR RIDE. What kind of riding are you doing?
STEP 3 - YOUR PRODUCT. Check that the product you have identified is categorized for the ASTM Conditions that correspond with ‘YOUR RIDE’ at Step 2.
STEP 4 - CUSTOM SPECIFICATIONS. Once you have made a product model choice at STEP 3, you will then consider the individual specifications that work for you, e.g.: diameter, rise, length, etc.
Step 1
Human Factor
Every SPANK Industries Product that requires a considered fit decision, is marked with a HUMAN FACTOR TABLE that identifies the product as Recommended for HEAVY / MEDIUM or LIGHT RIDERS, and HEAVY, MEDIUM or LIGHT IMPACT.Â
In the example to the left, the table indicates that the product is NOT RECOMMENDED FOR: Heavy Riders.
Step 2
Intended Use
Every SPANK Industries Product is listed with an INTENDED USE TABLE. The example given here indicates that the product is recommended for use across all riding disciplines, with the exception of: GRAVEL & XC. If the table also shows the E-Plus icon in the E-BIKE Column, it means that SPANK has tested and verified the product for use with Pedelecs, or E-BIKES.
Step 3
Classification
It is enough to refer to just the HUMAN FACTOR & INTENDED USE TABLES. However, for those who want an additional reference point to be absolutely sure of the intended use, you can refer to the international guidelines offered by ASTM that offers a quick reference number guide to riding ‘conditions. It is then the manufacturer, in this case SPANK Industries, that classifies its product according to the ASTM conditions it is recommended for.
ASTM is a classification standard that provides a uniform set of usage definitions within the bicycle industry. Included within this classification is a set of graphical indicators to provide retailers and consumers with an indication of the intended use of a particular bicycle or aftermarket component.
Condition 5
This is a set of conditions for operation of a bicycle that includes extreme jumping; or downhill grades on rough trails at speeds in excess of 40 km/h (25 mph); or a combination thereof.
Condition 4
This is a set of conditions for operation of a bicycle that includes downhill grades on rough trails at speeds less than 40 km/h (25 mph), or both. Jumps are intended to be less than 122 cm (48 in.).
Condition 3
This is a set of conditions for operation of a bicycle that includes use on rough trails, rough unpaved roads, and rough terrain and unimproved trails that require technical skills. Jumps and drops are intended to be less than 61 cm (24 in.).
WHAT IS ELECTRIC PLUS CLASSIFICATION?
SPANK Industries classify specified components as recommended for E-MTB use by qualifying the product to our Electric Plus internal standard.
EN/ISO test requirements standardize a level of product safety in the bicycle industry. Our more stringent internal test requirements, meet and exceed EN/ISO test requirements. In certain practical laboratory testing we double cycle times and increase load up to 30%. Products are then tested in the field by our professional athletes in riding situations at the highest level, such as UCI DH World Cup, Red Bull Rampage, Enduro World Series and FMB World Tour.Â
